Meghan Markle Won’t Return to Suits for the Reboot without a Substantial Pay Increase

Before she married a prince and became the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle was known and beloved around the world as Rachel Zane from the popular television show “Suits.”

Now that there’s talk of a “Suits” reboot, the world is wondering whether Meghan will make her way back to the small screen. And a new rumor is going around that she just might, but only if she receives a significant pay increase.

Getting Back to Acting

Even before meeting Prince Harry, Meghan was a famous actor in her own right. But after becoming a part of the royal family, Meghan stopped acting completely.

However, now that she and Prince Harry have removed themselves from the royal family and moved to Los Angeles, California, to live a “normal” life, there has certainly been speculation that she will go back to her original career.

Meghan Teased the World by 'Acting' in an Instagram Ad

In fact, just a few months ago, the press got extremely excited when they learned that Meghan was “acting” in an Instagram ad for coffee company Clevr’ Blends.

But as it turned out, Meghan is an investor in the company and was simply moving around the background of the clip. And while no one could really call it acting, some thought that this was Meghan’s sly way of reintroducing herself as an actor, not a duchess.

Let’s Talk About Suits

“Suits,” a comedic legal drama, originally aired from 2011 to 2019 on the USA network. Over the course of its nine seasons, the show was undoubtedly popular.

However, the total number of viewers dipped from an average of 4.28 million during the first season to less than 1 million throughout the last.

Suits Made it to Netflix in 2023

But everything changed for the seemingly forgotten show when it made its way to Netflix in 2023.

Last year, Netflix users watched a total of 57.7 billion minutes of the show, which broke the former record of 57.1 billion minutes of “The Office” watched in 2020. Many of these viewers were old fans who wanted to re-watch the series, but some were certainly new, younger fans who had never seen the show before.

A Spinoff Is in the Works

At the 81st Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 7, 2024, the original cast (except Meghan Markle) posed for a photo together on the red carpet, and the world couldn’t stop talking about it.

And it seems that this appearance was set up specifically to get everyone excited about the new spinoff in the works.

The New Show Won’t Be a Typical Reboot

“Suits” creator Aaron Korsh has confirmed that there is a new show on the horizon, though he made it clear that it’s not a typical reboot.

Hopefully, some of the same characters will be included, but their world will be set in Los Angeles, not New York, and it will be quite different from the original.

Korsh Wants Meghan to Revive Her Role

Although no cast members have yet been confirmed for the new series, Meghan’s love interest on “Suits,” Patrick J. Adams, has said that he would love to be a part of it.

And as anyone who has watched the show knows, there’s really no Ross without Rachel Zane. It’s become clear that Korsh and other producers are doing everything they can to get Meghan on board.

The Offer Couldn’t Have Come at a Better Time

Just a few years ago, when Meghan was the Duchess of Sussex, it would have been nearly impossible for her to participate in any kind of television show. But now, it certainly is possible, and more importantly, the offer has arrived when Meghan needs it most.

This Could Be the Chance for Meghan to Win Back Her Fans

There is talk that if Meghan does decide to be Rachel Zane once again, it could drastically improve her standing with former fans and get her back on top.

However, it seems that Meghan will only seriously consider the role if she is offered a substantial pay rise.

A Big Paycheck Could Sway the Former Royal

According to a source within the U.K. press, “Meghan is in a commanding position. They want to expand a successful franchise in which she has a ready-made fan base of millions worldwide” (via Express).

They also said, “[The producers] want her back, and they are prepared to pay what it takes to get her.” So it seems that Meghan might get exactly what she wants.

Will Meghan Markle Be in the New Suits?

Meghan Markle has neither confirmed nor denied that she will return to acting to star once again as Rachel Zane in the new “Suits” series.

So the world will have to wait patiently to see if the former duchess decides that the supposedly huge paycheck and consequent return to the spotlight are worth acting again.
